Why Clapham Clients Choose Us

Parquet Brought Back From the Dead

  • Specialists in original parquet
  • Old Town, Abbeville Village, Clapham Common North Side
  • Fixed quotes, no surprises mid-job
  • LOBA-trained for premium finishes including limed, smoked and bespoke colours
  • Family-run, with 22 years' hands-on experience, same hands on every job

Clapham Common has history for both of us. Luke spent half his childhood summers in the paddling pool there, hauled along with his sister every time the sun came out. Dean's Common years came later: as a teenager he never missed SW4 Festival, back when he could hack the late nights and the early rises. So when we're sanding a floor a few streets from the Common, it's not just another postcode.

Straight Answers

Frequently Asked in Clapham

Can you really save my old parquet?
Almost always yes. Original woodblock parquet was made to last and the wood is usually in good condition under the surface. The exceptions are floors that have been sanded too many times in the past (the wear layer is too thin) or where there's significant damp damage from underneath. We'll tell you straight at the quote stage what's possible.
I'm in a converted flat: does engineered or solid wood work better?
For first floor and above, almost always engineered. It handles the heating cycles in London flats far better than solid wood and you avoid issues with movement. The wear layer on a quality engineered board is still 4–6mm (plenty for future sanding). It behaves the way you want in a steady-temperature home. For ground floors with stable temperature we'll discuss both.
How dusty is the work, really?
With our extraction in place, fine dust around skirtings and edges only. No clouds, no settling on every surface. We've had clients carry on working from home through the project. We never use the older non-extracting machines that some companies still rely on.
Do you supply the wood, or do I buy it separately?
Both options work. Most clients prefer us to supply. We get trade pricing from premium suppliers and pass a fair portion of that on, which usually beats high-street retail. If you've already bought the wood, we'll happily fit it (with a quick check on the product spec).
What's the lead time in Clapham?
Generally 2–4 weeks ahead for restoration work, 3–6 weeks for installations where wood needs ordering. Urgent jobs we'll do our best to slot in. Just ask.
Are you Checkatrade approved?
Yes, and the reviews are public, both on Checkatrade and on Google. Same name on every job: Howard Naish Wooden Floors Ltd.
