What We Do Here

Our Services in Camberwell

Chevron & Herringbone Supply and Fit

Pattern floors are having their moment in SE5 and we fit a lot of them. The pale chevron in the page photo was a complete Camberwell job: boards sourced through our suppliers, laid to a centre line, then sanded and finished in place so the whole floor reads as one surface. Point-perfect rows, proper borders, no shortcuts.

Plank & Engineered Oak Fitting

Wide-board engineered oak for kitchens, open-plan ground floors and loft rooms, fitted floating or fully bonded depending on the subfloor. We'll talk board width, wear layer and finish in plain English, and steer you away from anything that won't survive real family life.

Subfloor Preparation

The part of the job nobody sees and everything depends on. Moisture testing on concrete, levelling compounds where needed, loose boards secured, the right underlay or adhesive for the floor going down. If the subfloor isn't right we say so before fitting, not after the boards start moving.

Sanding & Refinishing

New floors we install get finished on site where the spec calls for it, and existing floors get the full restoration treatment: our three-stage sanding process, repairs, gap filling and the finish of your choice, proven with a test patch first. Camberwell's period terraces hide some lovely original boards.

Samples to Your Door

Choosing a floor from a website photo is how mistakes happen. We bring real boards to your home so you can see the colour against your walls and your light, compare pattern against plank, and make the call with the actual product in your hand.

From Bare Room to Finished Floor

The Boring Bit Is the Important Bit

These two photos are the same kind of moment from our installs: a room prepped and ready, and the first wide boards going down over it. A finished floor is only ever as good as what's underneath, which is why we'd rather show you the preparation than just the glamour shot.

Boards acclimatise in your home before fitting, the subfloor is tested and made right, and the rows are set out so the floor looks intentional from the doorway, not started in a corner and hoped for the best.

Straight Answers

Frequently Asked in Camberwell

Do you supply the wood as well as fit it?
Yes, and we'd rather you let us. We buy through the trade suppliers we've used for years, Staki, Natural Wood Floor Co and Flooring Sales, which means proper boards at trade prices rather than showroom mark-ups. One quote covers the wood, the delivery and the fitting, and one company is responsible for the lot. The chevron floor in the photo on this page was supplied, fitted and finished by us as a single job here in Camberwell.
What's the difference between chevron and herringbone?
Herringbone uses rectangular blocks that interlock in a staggered zigzag. Chevron boards are cut at an angle so the rows meet in a clean, continuous point, like arrows across the floor. Chevron reads a little more modern and makes rooms feel longer; herringbone is the classic period look. We fit both, and we'll bring samples so you can see the two patterns side by side before deciding.
Can you fit over concrete, and what about underfloor heating?
Concrete is no problem: we moisture-test it first, then level and prime before anything is bonded down. For underfloor heating we fit suitable engineered boards, which are built to stay stable over changing temperatures, and we follow the manufacturer's tolerances so the warranty holds. Solid timber and water-based heating systems generally don't mix, and we'll tell you straight if what you have in mind isn't right for your setup.
Do you sand and refinish existing floors in Camberwell too?
All the time. Installation might be the headline on this page, but sanding and restoring original boards is the other half of what we do, and the Georgian and Victorian housing stock around Camberwell Grove keeps us busy with it. If you're not sure whether your old floor should be restored or replaced, we'll give you an honest steer on the site visit.
How long does a supply-and-fit job take from first call?
Typically 3 to 6 weeks end to end: the site visit and quote first, then wood on order (some boards are stocked, some are milled to order), then fitting, which for most rooms is a few days including acclimatisation of the boards in your home before they go down. We'll give you real dates when we quote, not guesses.
Are you Checkatrade approved?
Yes, and the reviews are public, both on Checkatrade and on Google. Same name on every job: Howard Naish Wooden Floors Ltd.
