About Us

The Two Names on the Van

Howard is Luke. Naish is Dean. There are no salespeople here, just two directors who are on every job they quote.

The Short Version

Two Surnames, One Standard

Howard Naish is exactly what it says: Luke Howard and Dean Naish, the two people who founded the company, own it, and kneel on its floors. Between them there's more than 40 years on the tools, and the arrangement has never changed: the people who come to quote your floor are the people who install it or sand it. No salespeople, no crews you've never met.

Director

Dean Naish

The Naish on the van. On South London floors since he was 17.

Dean has been in flooring since he was 17, which is now more than two decades of fitting, sanding and finishing floors across South London. The trade runs in the family: his dad Alan is a chimney sweep, the fifth generation of Naish & Sons, sweeping since 1870, and Dean grew up in Coulsdon riding along to jobs in his dad's van.

These days the van is his own, and the co-pilot in the photo is Red, Luke's dad's German Shepherd: proof that in this firm, even the dog is family. When a Saturday isn't spent finishing a floor, there's a fair chance it ends at AFC Wimbledon, where Dean holds a season ticket.

Director

Luke Howard

The Howard on the van. Born in SW12, precise to the millimetre.

Luke was born and raised in Balham and has spent pretty much his whole life in SW12, which is why the van is usually parked there. He learned to talk to anyone outside his dad's charity shop on Streatham Hill, and he's been putting that education to work with clients ever since.

On the tools he's the reason the patterns on this site line up: patient, precise, and happiest halfway across a subfloor with a laser line and a spine of herringbone to set. That's him in the photo, doing exactly that.

Real People

The Families Behind the Floors

We've put our families on this page for a simple reason. We spend our working lives in family homes, around kids, dogs and dinner times, and it helps to know the people working on your floor live exactly the same way. Your home gets treated like ours because ours look just like yours.

The Rest of the Team

Meet the Other Two

The two black Howard Naish vans parked side by side outside a South London period house

These two are on the team as well, and they never call in sick. Little and large, just like us. The big one is the Naish (Nosh to his mates), the little one is the Howard. Between them they haul every machine, every board and every last tin of finish across South London, and if we're honest they scrub up better than we do.

Why It Matters

Same Hands, Every Job

Plenty of flooring companies are a phone number, a salesperson and a rotating cast of fitters. We're the opposite on purpose. The directors quote every floor, work every job and answer for every finish, and when a job needs more hands, they're hands we've trusted for years. It's a slower way to grow a company and a better way to sand a floor.

Book the site visit and the person who knocks is the person who sands the floor. That is the whole company.
