Why Battersea Clients Choose Us

"It's a Shame We Can Do Nothing With This"

We were in Battersea to fit a brand-new floor in the bedroom and sand the existing kitchen floor. Nice summer morning, coffee in the garden before we started, and the client came out for a chat. We were standing on her decking. She looked down at it and said, "It's a shame we can do nothing with this."

That is not true, we told her. The sanding machines were already on site, so while we were doing the rooms we could do the decking too, at a price that made sense. She didn't believe it would come up: it had been down for years, weathered and damaged, and she was sure it wouldn't look great. You'll be very surprised, we said. Her answer was fair enough: it couldn't look worse than it did. Then the machines went over it, and the grey years came off to fresh, clean timber. Drag the slider and you'll see her "wow" for yourself.

  • New floors fitted, existing floors sanded and decking restored, all in one visit

Battersea is one of our busiest patches. We look after the floors at Emanuel School, one of our long-standing commercial clients, and the Victorian terraces between the Commons, the Shaftesbury Estate cottages and the mansion flats around Battersea Park and Prince of Wales Drive keep our vans in SW11 week in, week out. From Clapham Junction up Lavender Hill and out to the Power Station development, it's ten minutes from our Balham base.

What We Do Here

Our Services in Battersea

Sanding & Restoration

Existing floors brought back with our three-stage sand and a finish tested on your own boards first, like the kitchen floor on this job. Victorian pine, oak, parquet and boards under carpet, the house stays liveable throughout. Explore our floor sanding page.

New Floors, Supplied & Fitted

Engineered oak, herringbone and chevron sourced through our trade suppliers and fitted properly, like the new bedroom floor on this job. Samples come to your door so you choose the board in your own light, and one quote covers the wood and the work. See our installation page.

Decking Sanding & Restoration

The service most people don't know exists. Grey, weathered decking sanded back to fresh timber and protected with an exterior-grade finish. Works on straight, smooth boards like the deck above, and smartest done while we're already in for your indoor floors, since the machines are on site.

Staining & Colour

Warmer, cooler, paler or near-black: colour chosen on your floor with a free patch test, never off a brochure. Useful in Battersea's side-return kitchen extensions where new and old floors meet. More on our floor staining page.

Commercial & Schools

We look after the floors at Emanuel School here in Battersea, and we've written that job up on the blog. Halls, schools, offices and shops get dust extraction on every machine and work scheduled around your hours. See commercial floor sanding.

Straight Answers

Frequently Asked in Battersea

Can weathered garden decking really be sanded back?
Yes, and the results surprise people every time. The Battersea decking on this page had been down for years, grey, weathered and damaged, and the owner was convinced nothing could be done with it. Our machines took it back to fresh, clean timber in a day, and her reaction when she saw it was, in her own words, wow. Decking is just timber: if it is structurally sound, it sands back like a floor does, and then a proper exterior finish protects it. One honest caveat: our machines suit straight, smooth boards like the deck on this page. Ridged or grooved profiles are not a job for floor sanding machines, and we will tell you straight if yours is one we should leave alone.
Can you do the decking while you're doing our indoor floors?
That is exactly how the Battersea job happened. We were booked to fit a new floor in the bedroom and sand the existing kitchen floor, and the decking came up over morning coffee in the garden. Because the sanding machines were already on site, we could add the decking at a price that made sense, and the whole lot was done in the same visit. If you are planning indoor floors and you have tired decking, it is by far the smartest time to do both.
Do you fit new floors as well as sand old ones in Battersea?
Yes, and often in the same visit. The Battersea job was exactly that mix: a brand-new floor fitted in the bedroom, the existing kitchen floor brought back with our three-stage sand, and the decking restored outside. One team, one visit, three very different jobs done properly. We supply engineered oak, herringbone and chevron through our trade suppliers and bring samples to your door.
What goes on the decking after it's sanded?
An exterior-grade finish made for the job, chosen for how the deck is used and how much sun and rain it takes. An indoor floor finish has no business outside, so we use proper decking oils and treatments that feed the timber and slow the greying down. We will also tell you honestly how often it needs re-doing, because outdoor timber is a living thing and no finish makes weathering stop forever.
Do you do commercial work in Battersea?
Yes. We look after the floors at Emanuel School in Battersea, one of our long-standing commercial clients, and we have written up that job on our blog. Halls, schools, offices and shops across SW11 get the same treatment as our domestic work: dust extraction on every machine, work scheduled around your hours, and finishes chosen for the traffic the floor actually takes.
Are you insured and Checkatrade approved?
Yes to both. We carry full public liability insurance, and our reviews are public on Checkatrade and on Google. Same name on every job in Battersea and across South London: Howard Naish Wooden Floors Ltd.
