Why Streatham Hill Clients Choose Us

The Orange Comes Off

The before-and-after alongside is a recent Streatham Hill job. Original pine that had spent decades under a shiny orange varnish, sanded back to bare timber and stained a deep, even brown, with the family living in the house the whole way through. If your boards are wearing that same tired orange, it isn't the wood, and it isn't permanent.

  • Varnished pine is our bread and butter: the old finish comes off with the first of our three sanding stages, and the colour that goes back on is chosen on your boards, not from a chart
  • We work around real family life: room by room, sealed doorways, dust extraction on every machine, daily clean-down
  • We're in SW2 constantly; Streatham Hill sits minutes from our Balham base
  • New floors supplied and fitted too, when the honest verdict is that the old one is done
  • Family-run, with 22 years' hands-on experience, same hands on every job

Streatham Hill is old family ground for Luke. His dad ran a charity shop for pets here, and Luke spent a good chunk of his childhood parked outside it, on his dad's theory that the best education was getting to know the locals. It clearly worked: he's been talking to Streatham Hill residents ever since, just about their floors now.

What We Do Here

Our Services in Streatham Hill

Pine, Sanded and Recoloured

The Victorian terraces of Telford Park and the streets off the hill are floored in original pine, and most of it is hiding under carpet, laminate or a varnish that turned orange sometime in the nineties. Our three-stage sand takes it back to fresh timber; from there it's your call, natural, pale or deep and dark like the job above.

Staining, Chosen On Your Floor

Every colour decision here gets made the same way: shortlisted shades taped off side by side on your own sanded boards, in your own light, free. Twelve LOBA colours from bleached white to near-black; the range and the patch test are on our staining page.

Parquet & Herringbone Restoration

The mansion blocks and larger houses along the hill hide some lovely pattern floors. Loose blocks re-bonded, missing ones matched from reclaimed stock, the whole pattern sanded flat and finished as one. The craft detail is on our parquet restoration page.

New Floors, Supplied & Fitted

When a floor is genuinely past saving, we say so, and we can replace it as one job: engineered oak planks, herringbone or chevron through our trade suppliers, samples in your hands first, one quote for the boards and the fitting. How that's priced is on our installation page.

Revives & Maintenance Coats

Not every tired floor needs the full works. Oiled floors especially can often be deep-cleaned, buffed and fed back to life for a fraction of the cost of sanding, and if that's what yours needs, that's what we'll quote. Whether yours is oil or lacquer, our finishes page explains what it wants.

Every Quote Includes

  • Free site visit, fixed written quote in 48 hours
  • Industrial dust extraction on all machines
  • Full public liability insurance
  • Dust sheets, skirting masking, door seals
  • Daily clean-down: your home stays liveable
  • Aftercare guidance for years of good looks

Straight Answers

Frequently Asked in Streatham Hill

Our pine is that shiny orange colour. Can you get rid of it?
Completely. The orange isn't the wood, it's decades-old varnish that has yellowed with age, and it sands off with the first cut. Underneath is pale, fresh pine that can stay natural or take any of twelve stain shades. The before-and-after on this page is exactly that job, done here in Streatham Hill.
Can we live in the house while you work?
Almost every client does. We work room by room, seal the doorways, run dust extraction on every machine and clean down daily. The Streatham Hill job in these photos was a family home in normal use the whole way through, toys, sofa and all. We plan the order of rooms around your life, not ours.
How long is a room out of action?
Sanding a typical room takes a day or two, then the finish goes on in coats over the following day or so. You're walking on it in socks soon after the final coat, and furniture goes back after two to three days. You'll get exact times for your chosen finish before we start, so you can plan around it.
We're not sure whether to keep the boards or fit a new floor. Can you advise?
That's exactly what the free site visit is for, and we sell both, so the advice is straight. If the original boards have life in them, restoring them is usually the better-value and better-looking answer. If they're past it, or you want a different look entirely, we supply and fit new floors as one quote covering the wood and the work.
Can you do the whole house in stages?
Yes, and plenty of Streatham Hill clients do it that way: the living room this year, the hallway and bedrooms when the budget's ready. We keep a record of the finish and colour we used so every later stage matches the first one exactly.
Are you Checkatrade approved?
Yes, and the reviews are public, both on Checkatrade and on Google. Same name on every job: Howard Naish Wooden Floors Ltd.
